BlackBerry-Maker RIM: Sale Likely In the Works

Now that Research in Motion has hired bankers to evaluate strategic options, a sale of the company or significant restructuring of the BlackBerry maker appears to be a more plausible – even likely – outcome. "Given our belief BB10 smartphones will struggle to gain traction in the highly competitive smartphone market, we believe RIM may eventually sell assets, sell the entire company, or materially change its business model to a smaller niche supplier," Canaccord Genuity analysts T. Cisco: Internet Devices and Connections to Nearly Double by 2016

A zettabyte is equal to 1 trillion gigabytes; Cisco's prediction is that annual global IP traffic will reach 1.3 zettabytes in 2016. It's just part of the equipment giant's Visual Networking Index (VNI) Forecast (2011-2016), released today, which anticipates Internet traffic will nearly double from 2011 to 2016. With effect from 1 April 2012, the functions and responsibilities of the Broadcasting Authority have been merged with those of the Telecommunications Authority to form the Communications Authority (CA), a unified regulatory body for the broadcasting and telecommunications sectors.

The Office of the Communications Authority, an executive arm of the CA, has also been set up by combining the Office of the Telecommunications Authority and the relevant divisions of the Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority.
