Digital Agenda Forum: the challenge of copyright in digital age

The consultation period of the Copyright Law review will be ended on 30 April 2007. In response to the controversial matters the paper brings, I, together with CAHK, HKCS, HKITF, HKISPA, ISIA, ISOC-HK and WTIA, will hold a Digital Agenda Forum: the challenge of copyright in digital age. It aims at providing an opportunity to different stakeholders from different sectors for sharing ideas and thoughts about the copyright law review. We would like to offer participants a platform to understand value-stands of different concern groups, discuss how to strike a practical balance between competing interests, and sustain regular exchange of ideas between the ICT sector and copyright owners.
Details of the forum are as follow:

Date : 26 April 2007 (Thursday)
Time : 9:30am - 12:30pm
Venue : Function Room, 1/F, Hong Kong Productivity Council Building, 78 Tat Chee Avenue, Kowloon Tong
Language : Cantonese with English terminology
Registration     : Please click here

The forum will cover a series of brief presentations. The government representative will give participants detailed information about the copyright law review, the representative from the copyright owners will elaborate the need of strengthening digital copyright protection in Hong Kong and experts from the ICT sector will suggest ways on how to transform a threat that came from advanced technologies as a chance for copyright protection.

Is a stronger copyright law the only way to stop illegal downloading in today’s digital environment? Will the proposal incompatible with privacy protection norms and suppress innovations in Cyper space? And will the ICT industry suffer from new burden because of the new role imposed by the proposal? A roundtable discussion (with floor participation) will be provided. Participants are highly encouraged to join and share their thoughts in this session.
