Intelligent Transport System in Hong Kong

The deployment of ICT to improve the transport infrastructure is a world-wide trend. By establishing a transport network embedded with the innovative technologies to track vehicles, collect traffic information and enable road users to access road-side information on real-time basis, it is evident in other overseas countries that a city’s transport system will become efficient, reliable, safe and environmental-friendly.

Hong Kong’s ITS development still remains at an embryonic stage.  But with the highly competitive market and technological edge, Hong Kong has a unique advantage to foster greater development of ITS.

With an aim to promote ITS industry in Hong Kong, HKITF, WTIA and I co-publish a policy paper on ITS in Hong Kong.  The purpose of this research project is to modernize the exiting transport system, provide increase access to transportation services and reduce environmental impact. To accomplish these objectives, the research paper prescribes a broad set of policy, programmes and initiatives enabled by ITS technologies.

Please go though the paper and attend ITS Forum to be held on 6 April (Thur) afternoon. To share your thought with me, please email me at cksin@sinchungkai.org.hk.
