safeguarding the operational integrity of our data centers is paramount. In line with this commitment, we regularly conduct targeted drills to ensure our systems and teams are prepared for any infrastructure issue. Our latest exercise, the "Cooling Tower Insufficient Water Supply Drill," was designed to address potential disruptions in our cooling systems, which are critical for maintaining optimal server environment.
During the drill, our dedicated R&M Team, led by a HKCOLO Engineer, swiftly responded to a series of "High Cut" alarms from CRAC units, indicating a significant drop in water flow. The team performed a thorough check of the cooling system, from valves to water levels, and implemented corrective measures including manual bypass operations and temporary setups to restore normal water flow.
This proactive approach not only enhances our readiness for similar incidents but also assures continuous cooling efficiency, crucial for protecting our clients' data. We are grateful for the ongoing support from our clients and staff, which drives our continuous improvement in operational resilience.

We are all experiencing an unprecedented situation. The coronavirus COVID-19 global pandemic is affecting every aspect of our lives. We are experiencing a very special situation in 2020.
Health and safety of our employees, customers and partners is always our primary concern. Like most companies and institutions, we are closely monitoring the latest information provided by the government, and we are adapting our plans to reflect the updated guidelines and evolving situation of COVID-19. Recently, the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases is increasing and the fourth wave is coming in Hong Kong. We, here, to remind everyone to keep the epidemic prevention awareness at top level, keep the masks on and wash hands frequently. We will execute all the measures we designed making sure that we could provide a virus free environment in our facilities to maintain business continuity so that our customers and partners don’t have to worry about theirs. With our customers, partners and our great effort, we believe that we could get through it safely and return to normal soon.

During the outbreak of COVID-19, we would like to heighten our readiness for any emergency situation in our facility. HKCOLO has simulated a full drill of office infection in our SFC and CCC facilities on Sep 10 and Sep 11 respectively. Preserving health and safety of our colleagues and customers are of the highest concern. Deep cleaning and disinfection have been rehearsed during the drill. Our cleaning staff had donned full PPE during the exercise. We are testing and practicing for speed and familiarity. At the same time, we are urging everyone in our facility to maintain strict personal hygiene and appropriate social distancing with other people.
For enhancing safety awareness and readiness, we planned for petrol bomb handling drills 3 times in total in our CCC facility in TKO these months. The purpose of these drills is to field test the readiness of our staff in handling the situation and to demonstrate their operation skill of a new type of fire extinguishers in case petrol bombs were thrown into our premises. We have procured and will be using industrial grade foam type fire distinguisher to safeguard our facilities. We are testing and recording knowledge and speed of operation. Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, these drills have been postponed and will be rescheduled in the coming months pending pandemic situation.
Similar drills will be held in SFC after the conclusion of drills in CCC.
We always provide a better service and operation in our facilities.
As we have announced in advance in our last eNewsletter, we are very happy to announce that our new reception has started trial opening on July 7. With the implementation of new facilities and registration procedure, our customers would experience a faster and more convenient access to our building. Since the trial opening of our reception started, we received many positive feedbacks from our customers and guests. Most of them are happy with the spacious area and new access procedure. Satisfaction of our customers is always very encouraging to us. We will continue making HKCOLO better.
HKCOLO not just focus on our hardware upgrade, safety is also another section that we put in top priority. We have planned to do a new model of foam type fire distinguisher and petrol bomb handling drill in late July and August 3 times in total. However, due to the outbreak of COVID-19, we decided to postpone these drills. The purpose of these drills is to provide a general guideline on how on-site staff should handle the situation and how to operate foam type fire extinguisher when petrol bombs were found within premises. Foam type fire distinguisher is also applicable for putting out fire caused by flammable liquid. We are using a much larger volume of foam type fire distinguisher in these drills, it enhances the ability that we could put out a greater scale of fire in a shorter period of time. We will resume these drills once the situation is allowed.
The outbreak of COVID-19 has been disrupting lives and businesses around the world. In here, HKCOLO wishes everyone and your loved ones health and safety.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has disrupting lives and businesses around the world. In here, HKCOLO wishes everyone and your loved ones health and safety.

Cloud or cloud computing, these terms used to sound so sophisticated and far away from us, but nowadays we cannot live without cloud services. Dropbox, google drive, icloud, to name but just a few, these are the most commonly used cloud services used by the public. It shows the current mindset of how cloud is deployed: as a centralised platform to store the data. However, in order to reform the cloud services, we must dump these kind of ‘old school’ usage and embrace the new multicloud.
At the end of the second decades of the 21st century, it is time for review and preview. In the previous 20 years, we have seen many developments in the data centre industry. According to forecast, the development of data centre is likely to continue at least until 2023, and the development in APAC region can be more prominent than other regions. It can be expected that more and more data centres will be built in the Southeast Asian region, and not only in some traditional “big hub” like Singapore, but also in other countries such as Indonesia and Malaysia.
Congratulations! It was our pleasure to attend the 16th Anniversary of TraxComm. The event was excellent with great music and arrangement. We had a great time and enjoy the time meeting our peers. See you next year in TraxComm Annual Dinner.
For many years much attentions have been put on the security of Information Technology (IT) but not much was put on the Operational Technology (OT). A good facility without a compatible operating system can still remain a security risk to a data centre. Some measures can be taken such as replacing the legacy apps to minimize the vulnerability of data centre. One should not neglect the flaw in the operating system in order to provide a secure service for their clients.
Latency is always the key consideration for a data centre. With the introduction of 5G network, latency has already been largely reduced even from distant cloud data centre. So why do we still talk about edge data centres? The case in Minnesota may change your mind regarding the necessity of edge data centres. Although you might think edge data centres sound like another generation of the industry, they are as far away from us as we thought.
